About Us

The South Carolina Insurance Fraud Investigators (SCIFI) is a non-profit organization of insurance fraud investigators representing all of the major insurance carriers in the state of South Carolina, both state and local law enforcement investigators responsible for investigating insurance fraud related crimes, fire service and other allied personnel associated with insurance fraud investigation, suppression, and prevention.  As part of SCIFI’s efforts to combat insurance fraud at each level, several key objectives have been established.

Because of the varied interests involved in the fight against insurance fraud, the most critical objective for our organization is the promotion of good faith cooperation between the various involved entities. Although each entity may operate under a more general focus and may be required to work within certain institutional and/or legal guidelines, cooperation between these entities is achieved and nurtured through SCIFI and its offered training, education, and networking opportunities.

Without a doubt, the most important activities conducted by SCIFI are its quarterly business and training opportunities, which are culminated each year with its annual Insurance Fraud Training Seminar. Training and educational seminars are scheduled each quarter and are hosted by member organizations around the state. Offered training covers a wide range of insurance fraud related topics that include: arson related fires, property theft, vehicle thefts, staged accident rings, worker’s compensation claims, auto related bodily injury claims, current insurance fraud related trends, and the latest information on investigative tools, techniques, and services for combating insurance fraud.

At each quarterly training seminar, SCIFI conducts a business meeting to not only address the necessary business of the organization, but to also discuss and implement new ideas associated with insurance fraud related legislation and other external issues that affect public perception regarding insurance fraud. These seminars/meetings also offer a great opportunity for networking between the various insurance and law enforcement personnel who are at the front lines of fighting the insurance fraud epidemic. For more information regarding these seminars/meetings, please click here or visit our News And Events page.

SCIFI strongly supports the efforts of the Insurance News Service of South Carolina and their industry leading efforts in public awareness of insurance fraud related issues, the cost of insurance fraud to the consumer, and how the public can assist in the prevention and prosecution of insurance fraud. SCIFI also provides a unified voice on insurance fraud related legislation development, introduced legislation, and existing laws. SCIFI is not a lobbying interest. However, SCIFI focuses their efforts on providing support for any and all legislation that either supports or augments the fight against insurance fraud.

Lastly, SCIFI strongly calls for and encourages high professional standards and conduct from its membership in their efforts to combat insurance fraud. The fostering of a high standard of care, professionalism, and good faith claims handling remains a hallmark of its membership.
